Public sector lenders Canara Bank, Corporation Bank and Allahabad Bank have decided to lower interest rates on housing loans, preferring to keep their prime lending rates (PLRs) unchanged. ICICI Bank Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer K V Kamath has indicated that the country's second largest bank would review interest rates only in 2008-09.

Bagdana, a village in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat, has been declared anthrax-hit by the district authorities after sample of a domestic animal tested positive for the disease.Anthrax is a serious disease of sheep and cattle, which could be transmitted to humans. It is caused by the bacterium bacillus anthracis, which is highly lethal in some forms.The administration has decided to take all necessary steps to control the spread of the disease.

SBI put a temporary ban on tractors and farm mechanisation loans, starting this week, citing the reason of rising overdues. SBI finances about 25 per cent of all tractors sold in India, with a finance exposure of Rs 7,000 crore (Rs billion) as of last year. The ban will remain effective for a period of two months. According to an industry expert, India witnessed sales of about 325,000 tractors last year.
