Buoyed by a robust growth in Indian market, two-wheeler maker Honda Motorcycle Scooter India (HMSI) is planning to set up a second manufacturing unit as it expects sales to cross the 1.2 million units per annum mark by March 2011.

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI), Suzuki Motorcycle India (SMI) and Yamaha Motor India (YMI) are building motorcycles and scooters to suit the Indian market. The models will be manufactured at the company's research and development centres in Japan and will use new platforms.
The company also plans to introduce a 100 cc bike by the end of 2010. HMSI has a current market share of 11 per cent and is expecting to raise the figure to 15 per cent by 2010. Asked if the company has plans to phase out its scooter Eterno, Rattan said, "Though the sale of Eterno has come down, we do not have any plan to stop the production, rather we will revamp its sale with new strategies".
'The target for next year is unlikely to be more than that of this year. The more you divest in any cycle, the less your potential pipeline for the next,' said an official. 'The first two issues we want to tackle and complete in FY20 are Air India and Hotel Ashok.'
