Sambia Sohrab, son of Trinamool Congress leader Mohammed Sohrab, was arrested on late Saturday night by the Kolkata police for allegedly mowing down Indian Air Force officer Corporal Abhimanyu Gaud with his luxury SUV during a rehearsal of the Republic Day parade in Kolkata.
A Delhi court on Monday sent a youth, arrested in connection with the hit-and-run case in which an IAF corporal was killed, to two days transit remand.
"Sambia has been lying to us since day one... We are cross checking them with Johnny and Sonu's statements," the officer said.
Sambia broke down during a prolonged interrogation being held since Friday morning and confessed that he was driving the white color brand new Audi on the fateful morning of January 13 which killed IAF officer Abhimanyu Gaud.
"Johny was arrested from a house in the Port Area by our sleuths this morning. He was not traceable since the January 13 incident," Joint CP, Crime, Debashis Boral said in Kolkata.
Sambia denied that he was behind the wheel of the brand new Audi and also failed to answer questions about the other people with him during the mishap.
Kolkata police on Thursday issued a look out notice against Ambia Sohrab, Sambia Sohrab and their father former RJD MLA Mohammed Sohrab.
