The Resistance Front (TRF), which is believed to be a shadow group of LeT, claimed responsibility for the killings. IGP (Kashmir) Kumar said police have seized a vehicle used in the attack and that such killings were being executed at the behest of Pakistan.
Unidentified militants opened fire at the CRPF camp at Gagran in Shopian, 52 km from Srinagar, at around 1.00 pm and the security personnel retaliated, Inspector General of CRPF, Nalin Prabhat told PTI.
A civilian, identified as Kaunsar Riyaz, 45, was killed in the firing, while two Central Reserve Police Force personnel, including an officer, were injured, the officials said.
Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra on Tuesday directed the security forces to avoid collateral damage and exercise maximum restraint while conducting anti-militancy operations in the Valley.
Mopping up operations were underway at the building.
As the security forces were engaged in the counter-militancy operation, over 100 protesters pelted stones on them, an army official said.
The policemen were patrolling the area in view of a separatist-sponsored strike.
