The Delhi high court on Monday asked the Centre to submit a file on the Uphaar theatre fire victims' plea for grant of sanction to prosecute former IPS officer Amod Kanth for allegedly allowing an extra row of seats in the hall, leading to closure of one of its crucial exits.
The Central Bureau of Investigation has given a clean chit to former Delhi Police officer Amod Kanth, accused of illegally allowing retention of 37 extra seats in Uphaar theatre, where a fire claimed 59 lives 12 years ago.
The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday sought more time from a Delhi court to file its reply to the plea of victims of Uphaar fire tragedy challenging the clean chit given to former IPS officer Amod Kanth accused of allowing extra seats in the theatre where 59 people died in the 1997 inferno.
Kanth told PTI that some areas in forests often visited by insurgents have been identified and neutralised. He did not give the exact number of militants nabbed so far.
Kanth 'violated written government orders" and was removed after the Centre refused to take action despite repeated complaints by the state, the CM said.
Kanth has challenged the 2010 trial court order summoning him for allowing extra seats in Uphaar cinema hall where 59 people died in a blaze in 1997.
A bench headed by Chief Justice Altamas Kabir said that interference in Juvenile Justice Act is not necessary and dismissed a batch of PILs which were filed in the aftermath of the December 16 brutal gangrape and murder case in which a minor was also allegedly involved.
