Indian discus throwers fail to qualify

Indian women discus throwers Harwant Kaur and Seema Antil narrowly missed qualifying for the final in the Olympic Games in Athens on Saturday.

Harwant Kaur threw the metal to a distance of 60.82 m on her first attempt to finish seventh in her heat and 13th overall at the Olympic stadium last night.

The best 12 finishers, six each from the two heats, made it to the final.

Twenty-year-old promising thrower Seema Antil finished one rung lower than Harwant Kaur hurling the discus to a distance of 60.64 m in her second attmept after managing 59.93 m in her opening effort.

The veteran Neelam J Singh had a best throw of 60.26 m in her maiden attempt to obtain the ninth place in her heat and 18th in the overall rankings.
