Supriya Sule, daughter of Nationalist Congress Party chief and Union Minister Sharad Pawar, was on Monday formally declared elected to the Rajya Sabha.
Sule had a smooth sailing to the Upper House as no political party put up a candidate against her and the papers of three independent candidates were rejected during scrutiny on Saturday.
Today being the last date for withdrawal of nominations, Sule was declared elected unopposed on Monday afternoon, although the result was a mere formality.
The bypoll, necessitated due to the demise of NCP member Vasant Chavan on July 11, was scheduled on September 18.
