In an apparent bid to bridge differences between the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Bharatiya Janata Party president L K Advani, George Fernandes held a closed door meeting with RSS chief K S Sudarshan and its general secretary Mohan Bhagwat at the Sangh headquarters in Nagpur on Tuesday.
The meeting assumes significance in the wake of RSS criticism of Advani over his controversial remarks about Pakistan founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah during his recent Pakistan visit.
Fernandes, considered close to Advani, is probably on a mission to bridge the differences between Advani and RSS and also to discuss the strategy for ensuing Bihar assembly elections, RSS sources said.
Fernandes, whose Janata Dal-United is a constituent of the National Democratic Alliance, had recently expressed concern over crisis in BJP after the resignation episode of Advani, sources added.
The meeting also came a day after another Advani confidant and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Sunderlal Patwa had held discussions with Sudershan in Nagpur.
