Use of RDX in Mumbai blast ruled out

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal on Tuesday said the National Security Guards team had ruled out the use of RDX in Monday night's bomb blast at Ghatkopar even as he announced formation of a special team to tackle subversive activities.

After a meeting to discuss the blast in Mumbai, Bhujbal told reporters that the NSG team, which arrived on Tuesday morning, suspected a crude explosive was used in the blast, which claimed two lives and left over 30 injured.

"It appears that gelatin sticks were used to trigger the blast. However, the laboratory is yet to submit its report in this regard," he said.

"The

material used in the Ghatkopar blast and the explosives found in Andheri appear to be similar and the same group of people seem to be involved in both cases," he said adding that no one has claimed responsibility for Monday's blast.

However, he said it would be 'improper' to link the blast with the 10th anniversary of the Babri mosque demolition on December six.

Following a high-level meeting with Police Commissioner M N Singh, Railway Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria and senior officials of the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST), Bhujbal said a Quick Response Team of 56 'highly-trained, highly-motivated and highly-competent police personnel' would be formed to tackle subversive activities.
