The Bihar government on Saturday announced a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into last week's killing of three students in Patna in a 'fake' police encounter.

Chief Minister Rabri Devi said the CBI would also investigate the killing of two persons by the police in Majhaul in Begusarai district in a case of mistaken identity on December 23.

Opposition parties and student leaders have been on a warpath demanding a CBI enquiry into the killing of the students in Ashiana Nagar area and a statewide bandh called by them on Friday resulted in violence.

The beleaguered chief minister made the announcement at a press conference in Patna, as the political cauldron continued to boil for the fifth consecutive day with the National Democratic Alliance and Left parties staging dharnas across the state, burning her effigies.
