Austrian president Klestil dead

Austrian President Thomas Klestil died late Tuesday night. He was 71.

Klestil passed away at the AKH hospital in Vienna, where he was admitted following a heart attack on Monday.

Klestil's second six-year term as president had only two days to run.

Klestil first won the presidency in 1992, succeeding former UN secretary general Kurt Waldheim.
