Vellore-bound bus falls off bridge

Twenty-three people were charred to death when the bus they were travelling in skidded off a bridge and caught fire near Kaveripakkam, about 40 km from Vellore in Tamil Nadu, the police said today.

The bus, on its way to Tiruppur from Chennai, fell down the bridge last night after the driver lost control over the vehicle.

One of the 24 passengers travelling in the bus managed to escape, they said. Some of the bodies of victims were charred beyond recognition.
