The Congress in Karnataka has decided to bring in its star campaigners for the Karnataka elections. The All India Congress chief Sonia Gandhi [Images] will be in Karnataka on May 7 to canvass for her party.

President of the Karnataka Congress unit Mallikarjuna Kharge told reporters that Sonia will address public rallies in Bengaluru and Tumkur. Prior to Sonia's visit, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] too would be in Karnataka and address rallies at both Bengaluru and Mysore on May 6.

The Congress also plans to rope in the brother-sister duo of Rahul and Priyanka to campaign. However, the dates of their visit to campaign for the party in Karnataka have not been finalised as yet.

Kharge also announced the names of 11 candidates who will be fighting the elections in the third phase. The third phase of the Karnataka election will be held on May 22 and this phase would involve 69 seats. Kharge said the names of the remaining candidates would be announced shortly.

The Congress also inducted former Janata Dal-Secular leader C M Ibrahim into the party on Friday.

Ibrahim had contested the polls against Jaffer Sharrief on a JD-S ticket during the 2004 Lok Sabha elections. However, he fell out with JD-S supremo H D Deve Gowda before quitting the party a year back.
