Samajwadi Party parliamentarian Munnawar Hassan on Friday said he will defy the party whip and vote against the United Progressive Alliance government during the no-confidence motion on July 22.

Only 16 of 39 MPs turn up at SP meeting

Addressing media persons, Munnawar Hassan claimed to have the support of seven more party lawmakers.

Hassan's announcement comes as a blow to the UPA coalition, which is trying hard to keep its flock together. Earlier in the day, the Samajwadi Party had issued a whip to its MPs asking them to be present in the Lok Sabha and vote in favour of the government during the July 22 trust vote.
