Nine people were killed and 28 injured when a passenger bus fell 350 feet into the Chenab river near Ramban on the Jammu Srinagar [Images] national highway on Sunday evening.

The condition of ten of the injured victims is serious, said the police.

"The bus was on its way from Jammu to Banihal," deputy inspector general of police of Doda Ramban range Hemant Lohia told rediff.com.

Sources said that the accident took place when the driver of the bus lost control while maneuvering a curve. A massive rescue and relief operation was launched immediately, they said.
