Narmada Bachao Andolan leader Medha Patkar was on Monday arrested when she and others tried to stage a demonstration outside the Secretariat in Mumbai demanding implementation of rehabilitation package for people in Maharashtra affected by the Sardar Sarovar Project.

Earlier, she met Principal Secretary (Relief and Rehabilitation) Ramesh Kumar and pressed for speedy implementation of the package for those displaced by the multi-state project.

"Over 1,100 families in Nandurbar district of north Maharashtra, affected by the project, were promised a total of 1,500 hectares of land by Maharashtra government three years ago towards rehabilitation. But the promise has not been implemented yet," she said.
