Dayanidhi Maran, who has submitted his resignation from the Union cabinet on Sunday, is likely to meet Prim Minister Manmohan Singh at New Delhi on Monday evening, sources close to him said.

Maran, who was holidaying at nearby Udhagamandalam, cut short his stay and left for Chennai from Coimbatore by 9.05 am.

He had faxed his resignation to Dr Singh, following the decision taken by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam to get him sacked from the cabinet.

Maran, in a statement had said that he had not thought of betraying the party leader, but was ready to quit the cabinet and party if it satisfied the leader and his family.

Maran, who reached the city airport well ahead of the flight schedule, straightaway went into the VIP lounge.

He is likely to leave for New Delhi, after having a brief halt at Chennai. It was not immediately known whether Maran would meet the party president, M Karunanidhi, the sources said.
