An International Committee of the Red Cross helicopter involved in earthquake relief operations on Thursday crashed at Nauseri near Muzafarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, injuring two pilots on board, an ICRC spokesman said.

At the time of the accident only the pilot and the co-pilot were in the helicopter and the reason for the crash is not known yet, spokesman Raja Hamdani told reporters.

Both the injured have been rushed to Islamabad, he said, adding that the chopper went down at 11.56 am (1226 IST).

The helicopter, brought from South Africa, was taking part in relief operations in PoK and North West Frontier Provinces in the aftermath of the October 8 earthquake.

Pakistan with the help of UN, ICRC, the United States and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation has pressed over 40 helicopters to rush emergency supplies for survivors to tide over the harsh winter.
