Seven army personnel in rape case

November 04, 2004 21:45 IST

Police on Thursday registered a case against seven Rashtriya Rifles personnel who allegedly gang-raped a 19-year-old woman in Anantnag district of south Kashmir, sources said.

The case was registered after residents of Sonibrah village in Mattan area staged a demonstration demanding action against them.

The victim's family members alleged that the seven entered their house at Sonibrah and raped the girl after forcing all inmates out on the pretext of conducting searches.

The woman, who was married only a few months ago, was immediately taken to Mattan hospital by her family and was undergoing treatment there, the sources said, adding that the medical report was awaited.
