A MiG-21 crashed in Srinagar on Monday night.

The pilots, Wing Commander R Rastogi and Flight Lieutenant Ganeshan, died in the crash, which took place outside the air force station at around 2230 IST, defence spokesperson Mukhtiar Singh said on Tuesday.

The reason for the crash was not yet known, he said, adding there were no civilian casualties.

Last year, a fighter jet had crashed in a residential area in Budgam district in Kashmir, killing two persons.
