Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd has soft launched its national long-distance service in the country from six centres, including Mumbai and Ernakulam.
While the company has interconnection with most of the private cellular operators, it is facing problems interconnecting with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd.
Bharti Telesonic and BSNL are the other two operators offering national long-distance services. Reliance Infocomm is also expected to launch its service soon.
Without interconnection with BSNL and MTNL, subscribers using VSNL's NLD network will not be able to reach the 40 million fixed-line subscribers of the two public sector telecom companies.
VSNL had similar problems while interconnecting with MTNL and BSNL for its international-long distance services.
VSNL officials said the terms being offered by BSNL and MTNL were not favourable. "The terms BSNL is offering cannot be accepted as they do not make business sense. We have seen the commercial arrangement between Bharti and BSNL, those are extremely unfair," a VSNL official said.
