Sensex down 19 points at close

The markets opened with a small negative gap of 10 points at 4,954. However, fresh buying soon after saw the index move into the green and hit an intra-day high of 4,976 in mid-morning deals.

A bout of profit-booking in the afternoon session saw the indices touch an intra-day low of 4,920 in the mid-noon session. A minor recovery towards the closing stages meant that the Sensex finally signed off the day with a loss of 19 points at 4,945. The Nifty also ended 3 points lower at 1,545.

Reliance was down a percent (Rs 4) at Rs 448. ITC was unchanged at Rs 895 while HLL dropped 3% (Rs 4) to Rs 130.

Wipro gained nearly 2% (Rs 29) to Rs 1,523. Infosys and Satyam were up a percent each at Rs 5,270.50 and Rs 309.50,

respectively.

HPCL and MTNL zoomed nearly 5% each to to Rs 357 and Rs 131, respectively. ONGC and SBI were down a percent each at Rs 650 and Rs 480, respectively.

Zee Telefilms dropped 3% (Rs 4.40) to Rs 130. Grasim plummeted 4% (Rs 44) to Rs 1,016 while Reliance Energy gained 2% (Rs 11) to close at Rs 551.
