Recommending technology neutrality, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India on Friday said Internet service providers should be allowed to use any medium, including fiber and radio to provide services.

The ISP licence agreement allowed ISPs to use optic fiber and radio in the last mile but does not talk about using copper cable explicitly, the regulator recommended to the department of telecommunication.

The recommendation forms part of plans to encourage high-speed Internet services (broadband) by stand-alone ISPs, a Trai statement said in New Delhi.
