IT major Infosys Technologies announced on Tuesday that it was contributing Rs 5 crore (Rs 50 million) to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund to assist the victims of tsunami that ravaged South and South East Asia early last Sunday.
In its effort to reach out to the tens of thousands of people rendered homeless, the company is also actively supporting its employees' efforts across group companies globally, to make monetary and material contributions towards aid operations.
Expressing his grief over the calamity, Nandan Nilekani, CEO, president and managing director, Infosys, said, "We believe it is the duty of every corporate citizen to address the people's most basic requirements immediately in a disaster situation such as this. Through this contribution we hope to provide flexible resources to meet emergency needs such as food, water, clothing, shelter material and other supplies to aid the survivors."
"We also have a lot of Infoscions who have expressed their eagerness to support relief efforts and our employee teams are visiting and offering aid to people in the affected areas," he added.
On several occasions in the past, Infosys and its employees, have come together to help those affected and contributed towards many worthwhile causes like the 9/11 World Trade Center disaster, the Gujarat earthquake, drought relief and the Orissa cyclone.
