Fiat India on Monday said its manufacturing operations at Kurla were severely affected due to inclement weather conditions and floods in Maharashtra.
"Kurla was the area most badly affected by the Mumbai floods. The Fiat plant being in Kurla, was affected to a major extent in the manufacturing area, but the assessment of damages is still under way," the company said in a statement.
It said it was working towards restoring operations "that largely depend on the availability of electricity in the region."
Fiat said it had also made efforts to supply spare parts to its affected customers on time.
In light of the damages Fiat cars would have gone through due to the unforeseen torrential rains in Mumbai, the company said it has set up special commercial communications centres for dealers and customers to avail of spare parts and cars on time.
"The Mumbai monsoons have been an unfortunate calamity for all of us. To ensure we make life easier for all Fiat customers, we have set up a system wherein each of our dealers can contact us to register their requests and place orders for spares etc so that necessary action can be taken on time," company managing director Paolo Castagna said.
"Starting from Monday, we are restoring the shipment of spare parts, cleaning up the backlog of request of the last days," the company said.
