Central and state government employees would be entitled to five per cent additional dearness allowance of basic pay and 50 per cent DA from July 1, 2006 following proportionate increase in price index since January this year.

The all India Consumer Price Index number base 2001-100 registered a steep increase of two points during the month of June to stand at 123 points.

The index when converted to old base 1982-100 stood at 569, labour bureau sources said.

Nagpur registered a record increase of seven points during June, while Silcher and Kodrama registered an increase of five points each.

The steep increase in Nagpur was attributed to escalation in prices of rice, wheat, milk, vegetables, fruits and tea.

The index stood at 120 points in respect of Ahmedabad, 125 (Bangalore), 117 (Chennai), 122 (Delhi), 120 (Kolkata) and 126 (Mumbai).
