Following Telecom Regulatory Authority's intervention in the recent hike in roaming charges, the cellular operators have decided to lower these tariffs for certain slabs to bring them in line with the prescribed ceiling.
The operators have also informed TRAI about the compliance, sources said while pointing out that the situation had arisen due to misinterpretation of the components that can be included in the prescribed limit.
Accordingly, the operators have decided to lower the charges for calls from mobile to fixed line in a distance slab of 200-500 km to Rs 5.45 from Rs 5.49 earlier, and that of over 500 km to Rs 5.65 from Rs 6.49 earlier.
Earlier this week, TRAI had noted that the roaming tariff implemented by some operators for various distance slabs exceeded the prescribed limit and were also inconsistent with the provisions of Telecom Tariff Order and IUC regulations.
The cellular players had increased the roaming tariff by Rs 1.50 a minute with effect from May 1.
