AirTel on Thursday announced a tariff plan for new subscribers in which the user has to pay a net monthly charge of Rs 299 and rupee one per minute for cell-to-cell local calls.

STD call from mobile-to-mobile will be charged at Rs 1.99 a minute from anywhere anytime and there will be no deposits for local and STD service for the GSM users under the plan AirTel 0,1,2, a company release said.

All incoming calls from anywhere would be totally free, it added.

A new entrant today sifts through about 28 plans on an average with 4-6 players each offering about 5-6 plans before deciding on a tariff plan, the release said adding, "Realising the dilemma a consumer has to wade through while deciding on a tariff plan, this plan is intended for new users".

At less than rupees two, making an STD call is cheaper than using a landline, the statement pointed out.

"With AirTel 0,1,2, we are taking the lead in simplifying the entry plan for consumers who are confused by the complexity and the magnitude of various plans," Manoj Kohli of Bharti Televentures said.
