'Mungeri Lal's dreams will come true'

July 08, 2004 15:20 IST

"Yeh Budget Mungeri Lal ke sapne poore karega (This Budget will make Mungeri Lal's dreams come true)," Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal said on Thursday expressing satisfaction over its 'pro-common' nature.

"The Bugdet is pro-common and has tried to cover each and every sector with special focus on agriculture which employs the common man in huge numbers," Sibal said in New Delhi.

Terming the Budget as 'balanced,' the minister said adequate importance is given to agricultural sector which would empower the common man especially the farmers of the country to come forward and join the mainstream.

The 'growth-oriented' budget is expected to achieve a growth rate of about 8 per cent in the agricultural sector, he said.

On the subsidies expected in the field of biotechnology, he said: "We wished subsidies for the department as are extended to information technology but there are certain limitations under which one has to work."

He, however, said that the Budget has struck a balance between the agricultural sector and industries, he said, adding that "adequate importance is given to both the sectors."

With the schemes announced, the projected industrial growth has gone up to 10 per cent, he said.
