February 26, 2003 14:58 IST

The Indian Railways expects to carry about 540 million tonnes of goods in the financial year starting April 1, about five per cent more than this year, Railway Minister Nitish Kumar said on Wednesday.

"India's Railways are expecting to carry 540 million tonnes of revenue earning traffic during 2003-04 which is 25 million tonnes more than the traffic of 515 million tonnes likely to be lifted in the current year," Kumar told Parliament while presenting the Railway Budget.
