Do you too? Tell us what's the most effective granny's remedy you've used!

For pimples:

Turmeric is not just a spice.

This yellow coloured powder has medicinal and anti septic properties as well.

Mix turmeric with lemon juice and make a thick paste. Apply it on your zit. Wash it off when it dries.

Toothpaste is another effective treatment that can be used to get rid of pimples. Just apply a pea sized amount on the pimple and leave it overnight.

Wash it off next morning and see the difference.

For acne scars:

Dab a cotton ball in lemon juice it and apply directly on to the acne scar.

Leave it for 10-15 minutes and wash it off.

Regular application helps in getting rid of the scars.

Mix sandalwood powder and a little rosewater to make a thick paste and apply it on the acne scar.

Wash off after it dries or leave overnight and see the difference.

For glowing skin:

Take a slice of tomato and rub on your face to get a glowing and tan free skin.

Tomato pulp mixed with honey can be applied to the skin for softer skin.

Mix a teaspoon of lemon juice with a teaspoon of sugar and scrub.

Wash off and get glowing skin instantly.

Lemon is a bleaching agent and sugar acts as an exfoliant which helps in getting rid of dead cells.

For oily skin:

Make a thick paste of multani mitti powder by mixing it with rose water or just plain water.

Apply it on the face. And let it dry. Wash off and get oil free skin.

Cut a cucumber into slices, rub on your face.

Leave it on overnight and wash with warm water in the morning.

Do this daily before going to bed.

For wrinkles:

Apply honey on your face and leave it for 20-30 minutes.

Wash with lukewarm water.

Do this regularly to reduce wrinkles and fine lines.

Here is a face mask that you can make at home to rejuvenate your skin:

Gram flour Mask

Gram flour has been used traditionally to exfoliate and cleanse skin.

Ingredients:

  • 1tsp gram flour (besan)
  • 1tsp honey
  • A few drops of lemon
  • A pinch of turmeric

Method:

  • Mix the ingredients to form a thick paste.
  • Apply to the skin and let it dry for 15-20 minutes.
  • Wash it off with cold water.
  • This creamy face pack exfoliates, lightens and rejuvenates your skin.

For dandruff:

Apply coconut oil to your hair. Leave it for an hour or two or overnight.

Shampoo to get soft and dandruff free hair.

Alternatively coconut oil can be mixed with lemon juice and applied to the hair to get rid of dandruff.

Another effective remedy for dandruff is a mixture of yoghurt and pepper powder.

Yoghurt prevents scaling of the scalp and black pepper powder has anti fungal properties.

Mix a teaspoon of pepper powder in a cup of curd and apply it to the roots of your hair.

Leave it for an hour, rinse and shampoo.

Be careful while rinsing hair as the black pepper powder may burn your eyes.

Some other tips which you can follow to maintain your locks:

Never comb wet hair.

Always use a wide tooth comb to detangle your hair.

Massage! Massaging hair increases blood circulation of your scalp which promotes hair growth.

Eat a lot of protein rich food.

Use deep conditioners like yoghurt and coconut oil for softer, longer and thicker hair.

Avoid heat: Blow driers, Straighteners and Curlers!

Note: Natural ingredients and home remedies may take a while to show results at times.

So, if results don’t appear too soon, don’t lose hope. Just be patient and wait for the benefits.
