Are you preparing to leave for an international university? 

If so, you probably have many questions you'd like answered before you leave. Some examples include:

Will there be a job waiting for me when I return?

Is a degree from Australia worthwhile?

How will I be received in a foreign country?

Karan Gupta, overseas education consultant, answered these questions and more during a June 25 expert chat.

kaarthik asked, Hi Karan, Good Afternoon, My name is Kaarthik ! I am having 2 years of work exp in IT. I am preparing GMAT..aiming for MBA in MIS . Can you Which US university is best for this programme?

Karan Gupta answers, Most top business schools require students to have at least two years of full-time work experience before they apply. There are some good schools in the US that offer the MBA in MIS, including Rutgers and University of Texas Arlington.


rajkrishna asked, hi karan.good afternoon I think this is ur not first visit for rediff.I choosed bond university in australia for my master's.I am confused either to take films and television or media(mass communications).Films are my interest but i am in a dilema since the out come of doing master's in films may end up, me not getting job.what do u say?

Karan Gupta answers, 
It is best to study the courses that will suit both your degree requirements and your career goals. Keep in mind your interests, goals and requirements before choosing a course.


sudhirtripathi asked, Hi, Mr.Karan,i m sudhir a post graduate in physics, now i want to go for research, i have got 7 bands in IELTS...but i m confused which country i sud prefer...my priorty is better scholarship.....thank u

Karan Gupta answers, 
The US is considered the best for post-graduate research in Physics. US universities will also be more likely to offer you funding for your post-graduate education.


Rahul asked, Hi am currently doing IB....am thking of Singaporean unis for BBA/Economics....wats the type of IB score they require any idea???

Karan Gupta answers, 
Universities in Singapore will have different IB score requirements for different courses. Generally scores of 34 and above are considered good.


gupta asked, WHAT CAN YOU SAY ABOUT PURSUING MBA IN GERMANY [Images]

Karan Gupta answers, 
You will be able to find a number of business schools in Germany offering an MBA programme in English. However, getting jobs after you graduate in Germany will be very hard.


romeet asked, hi, i have a spelling error in my name. som eof my docs bear the name "romeet raj singh chhabra" and some "romit rajsingh chhabra". i have my visa date scheduled for the 18th of july. is the name thing a problem. i have an affidavit which claims both names are mine. should i submit the affidavit to vfs. how should i intimate them of this... is this going ot be a problem?

Karan Gupta answers, 
No, this should not be a problem. The name on your I-20 as well as the name on your passport should match.


swarna asked, My daughter is very particular to study Bio medical science abroad.based on our budget we are planning to send university of central lancashire off campus course at Dr.D.Y. Patil institute of Bio Medical science mumbai Pls advise

University of Central Lancashire is a very average university. She may find it difficult to get jobs after she graduates.


poorva asked, hi karan My queries are: 1)My work experience will be counted upto the date of applying or batch start time? 2)And also can you suggest me some(atleast 5-6) good US bschools which have spring intake. Thans in advance.

Karan Gupta answers, 
Yes, work experience will be counted up to the date of joining the school. University of Rochester in the US has a spring intake.

Karan Gupta answers, 
You can prepare an asset statement outlining your movable and immovable assets. You should carry orignal proof of everything you mention in the asset statement.


Rahul asked, i hav heard the Australian universites r all about branding n packaging??? how far is it true??? myth/truth.....

Karan Gupta answers, 
It depends from university to university. Some universities such as the University of Melbourne are genuinely good universities while others may just be good at 'branding and packaging'.


redhat asked, Hi Karan. How good a chance shall one have in NUS with 3 yrs of ex(at the date of joining) and 680 GMAT? Indian Engg in Infosys [Get Quote].

Karan Gupta answers, 
I would say you have a good chance. Write good essays and prepare well for your admission interview and your chances of admission will increase.

Karan Gupta answers, 
You can apply for either a Master's degree in EE or an MBA. For admissions to US universities you will need the GRE for the MS degree and the GMAT for the MBA. You will also need to take the TOEFL exam.

Karan Gupta answers, 
No one can ever guarantee jobs in any country. Chances of getting a job once you graduate from a 'top' university are good.

Karan Gupta answers, 
The GMAT score is an important factor that business schools look at before deciding on scholarships. The schools also look at your past work experience and academic records.


Ajay asked, Dear Sir, I have 2 yr experience as a Customer Care Executive in a BPO. I wish to do an MBA. What would be better in terms of career prospects :� an MBA from abroad or an MBA from a Top-15 B-School in India ???

Karan Gupta answers, 
I would recommend that you compare specific business schools before making this decision. You most likely will get an international career if you choose a US business school. Also besides the IIMs, most US universities have better facilities and faculties as compared to Indian business schools.

Karan Gupta answers, 
You will find racism in all countries including India.


retins asked, Sir, can you get detailed instructions on how to use the VFS website. I'm finding it very difficult to use and opereate. Thank you.

Karan Gupta answers, 
Visit http://www.vfs-usa.co.in and complete a new visa application. The instructions are mentioned on the website. If you have any difficulty you can call VFS and speak to them.


Sunitha asked, Hi Karan! I am aiming for Fall 2008 at US/UK. Hv 4 Yrs plus Exp as HR Asst Manager in IT. Want to know some good schools for MBA/ MS HR

Karan Gupta answers, 
In the UK, some of the best business schools are London [Images] Business School, University of Warwick and Manchester Business School. In the US the best business schools are Harvard, University of Pennsylvania and Northwestern.


kmthacker asked, Hi Karan, I need some advice on pursuing MSc in Education research Methodology from Oxford ..Can one get a scholarship easily for such courses ? and how would you rate this course ?

Karan Gupta answers, 
This is a good course and Oxford is a very well known university. However, getting scholarships from Oxford is very hard.


ram asked, HI Karan, I have done my PhD in electrical Eng, from Cardiff University in the UK. I want to go for the MBA course to go into Management of companies. (CEO-is my Aim). Please guide me on the MBA course and school.

Karan Gupta answers, 
For admissions to MBA programmes, you will need to have work experience of at least 3 years. You will have to take the GMAT and the TOEFL. You can consider schools such as USC, Boston University, Insead, LBS and so on.

Karan Gupta answers, 
MIT in the US is considered one of the best schools for IT related courses. For admission you will have to appear for the GRE and the TOEFL.


bharat asked, Hello sir, My profile is (B-COM+ M.B.A(Marketing pune university+3.5 years of work Exp in insurance and banking )sir i wanted 2 do My second M.B.A in Finace from US/UK kindly sujest me and what are the chances of getting a job their and kindly also tell me sir my indian M.B.A considered by those people or not while takinbg an admission & what is GMAT score is good?

Karan Gupta answers, 
No one can guarantee a job after your MBA. However, if you graduate from a 'good' school in a central area, you will have a greater chance of getting a job. Your past MBA will be considered (some schools may not let you apply because of your past MBA). A GMAT score of 650 and above is considered good.
