February 06, 2008 20:17 IST

Valuable century knocks by former India player Hemang K Badani and Vasanth Saravanan helped Chennai Superstars clinch a six-wicket victory over Kolkata Tigers in a high-scoring match of Indian Cricket League domestic tournament in Chennai on Wednesday.

Batting first, Kolkata Tigers posted 311 for seven in 50 overs. But Chennai Superstars' Vasaravan, who remained unbeaten with 107 (11 fours and a six) and Badani (112-7 fours and a six) added 209 runs in 22 overs for the fourth wicket to steer their team to a deserving victory.

Chennai scored 315 for four in 48.1 overs.

Earlier, Kolkata Tigers had a shaky start but captain Deep Das Gupta (54, 7 fours) and P K Das (80, 6 fours and a six) steadied the team with a valuable stand of 104 runs for the second wicket.

After their exit, Kolkata Tigers enhanced their run rate through A A Jhunjhunwala (39) and Rohan Gavaskar, who was run-out by Satish, for 61 (3 fours and 2 sixes) as the pair put on 93 runs.

For Chennai, Badani (2 for 38) and Syed Mohammud (2 for 78) were the main wicket takers.

They were also helped by a useful 42 by captain R Satish, who made a fine 42 off 37 balls, inclusive of seven hits to the fence.

Kolkata's Ahmed took 2 for 61.
