Brilliant Australia rout India to clinch ODI series 3-2

Usman Khawaja's century helped Australia rout India by 35 runs in the fifth ODI to clinch the five-match series 3-2, in New Delhi on Wednesday.

It was an amazing comeback from Australia to win the ODI series after they had lost the first two games. Australia completed the limited overs double over India, winning both the T20I and ODI series.

Khawaja continued his good form, as he stroked 100 but India's bowlers did well in the middle overs to restrict the visitors to 272 for nine.

But India struggled with the bat, with only Rohit Sharma (56) going past the 50-run mark as they finished on a disappointing 237 all out.

India made a strange decision to keep out both KL Rahul and Ambati Rayudu and the youngsters Rishabh Pant and Vijay Shankar failed to make an impression with the bat, with both only managing 16 each.

Following their below-par showing in the last three ODIs, India have a lot of headaches looking ahead at the World Cup, especially with the middle order batting.

Cummins concedes just two singles in his final over to finish with brilliant figures of two for 38 in 10 overs.

The two teams just going through the motions India need 45 runs from two overs for victory.

Shami swings his bat but gets a leading edge and is caught by Richardson who takes a good running catch on the off-side.

A superb showing with the ball for Australia as they stand just one wicket away from an unbelievable comeback victory in the series.

A good outing with the ball for Richardson, who picks up two for 47 in his 10 overs.

43 needed from six balls for victory, even six sixes won't do it for India. Kuldeep pulls the first ball over midwicket for a four followed by wide and the left-hander plays the same shot, this time just for one.

Stoinis ends the match in grand style, bowling Kuldeep for eight as India are sent packing for 237 to lose by 35 runs.

Bhuvneshwar makes room and steers Cummins fine on the off-side for a four before the pacer bowls a wide.

He taps the next ball to point for one before Jadhav clips a full delivery to deep square leg for two runs and then pulls the next for one.

Cummins then deceives Bhuvneshwar with the slower ball who tries to hit it down the ground but miscues it and is caught by Finch, who backpedals at mid-off and settles under the catch.

Bhuvneshwar walks back for a good innings of 46 as India are reduced to 223 for seven in 46 overs, needing 50 runs from four overs for victory.

Richardson ends India's hopes with the wicket of Jadhav in the next over. The right-hander, who made 44, pulls a short ball but is caught by Maxwell at deep midwicket as Australia inch closer to victory.

India are 226 for eight in 47 overs needing another 47 runs in three overs for victory.

Bhuvneshwar drives Zampa straight back as the spinner fails to collect it on his follow through and gives away a single.

The next ball is ripper, as it turns and bounces sharply beating Jadhav all ends up.

The third ball is a full toss which Jadhav taps on the leg side for one before Bhuvneshwar slog sweeps Zampa for a six over midwicket.

He picks a single off the next as Zampa goes for nine in his final over to finish with three for 46 in 10 overs.

Cummins comes back into the attack. A single each to Bhuvi and Jadhav before the former makes room and has a huge swing but is beaten before he takes one on the leg side.

A good over from Cummins as he gives away just four runs in his eighth over as the asking rate goes over 11.

Richardson is back into the attack. Jadhav pulls the first ball to fine leg for a single before Bhuvneshwar launches a slower delivery back over the bowler's head for a straight six.

He has another swing but ends up chipping it to the left of the fast bowler, who is unable to get down in time and take the low catch.

10 runs from the over as India reach 214 for six in 45 overs, needing another 59 runs from five overs for victory.

Richardson strays down the leg side as Jadhav glances it fine for a four and keeps strike with one from the last ball.

In the next over, Jadhav decides to target part-timer Maxwell as he comes down the track and smashes the first ball straight for a boundary.

A single on the leg side before Bhuvneshwar steers a wide ball past point for another four.

India are 178 for six in 40 overs, needing 95 runs from 10 overs for victory at 9.5 per over.

Zampa, who has two overs in hand, comes back. Jadhav pulls the first ball to deep square leg for a single before Bhuvi slaps the third ball to sweeper cover for one, followed by two more singles.

The run rate has gone above the 10 per over mark.

Jadhav keeps India's hopes alive as he slog sweeps Maxwell over midwicket for a six to take his score to 35. He turns the next ball to midwicket with soft hands and comes back for two runs.

That six has brought the Kotla crowd back to life but India need to keep getting the boundaries and stay in touch with the asking rate.

India are 191 for six in 42 overs, needing another 82 runs from eight overs for victory.

Cummins gets Bhuvneshwar to edge one but it flies past wicketkeeper Carey for a boundary followed by singles from the last two balls of the over.

Lyon has a stumping appeal down the leg side to Jadhav as Carey whips off the bails in a flash but the batsman's feet were firmly grounded.

A couple of singles off the next two deliveries as the asking rate goes over the eight per over mark with 112 needed from 14 overs for victory.

Pacer Richardson is back into the attack. Bhuvneshwar hits the second ball through the covers for a couple before he defends the rest of the over.

Lyon has been exceptional with the ball today, bowling on a good line and length. He ends his spell with a maiden over, to finish with impressive figures of one for 34 in 10 overs.

Maxwell bowls a rare loose delivery as Jadhav glances it fine down the leg side for a four.

The crowd at the Feroz Shah Kotla have had enough and some are already making their way home.

What a stunning comeback from Australia! They were on the verge of losing the series after losing the first two games but showed great resolve to win the next two games and sit in firm control in the series decider.

Lyon comes back into the attack. He drops it short as Jadhav rocks back and cuts it behind point for a four followed by two singles.

Zampa, who has taken three for 33 in eight overs, gets a rest as pacer Cummins is called back into the attack.

Jadhav cuts the third ball but only for a single as Zampa at thirdman rushes to his right and gets the ball back quickly to deny the second.

Jadhav defends the last two balls as Cummins concedes just three singles in the over.

Lyon continues as singles come from the first two deliveries before Bhuvneshwar blocks the rest of the over.

Things getting difficult for India as the Australian spinners are stringing some tight overs in the middle to further create pressure on Rohit and the lower order.

Maxwell concedes just a single in his third over for a total of just 10 runs conceded in three overs.

Zampa gets third time lucky against Rohit, who chips down the track but is beaten in the flight and stumped for 56.

Zampa again strikes three balls later with the wicket of Jadeja, who is beaten all ends up by the googly and he is also stumped for a duck courtesy of some quick glove work from Carey.

A double wicket maiden for Zampa, who has taken three for 32 in seven overs, to leave India on the brink as they are reduced to 132 for six in 29 overs.

Zampa gives it some air and Shankar out of nowhere lofts it back over the bowler's head as it carries all the way for a six to release some pressure.

Zampa drops short as Shankar pulls the next ball but ends up miscuing it on the leg side with Khawaja taking a good catch at long-on running to his right.

Shankar walks back for 16 to leave India in trouble on 120 for four in the 25th over.

Rohit, on 52, gets a lifeline as wicketkeeper Carey puts down the edge as Zampa gets it to turn sharply.

Kedar Jadhav brings some smiles back among the fans as he punches the last ball through the covers for a four.

Rohit, on 53, gets another lifeline in the next over as Maxwell puts down a straightforward chance in the covers and again it is Zampa, who sees the catch go down -- the second time against Rohit.

Rohit taps Zampa to the covers and takes a quick single to bring up India's 100, in the 21st over.

Singles off the next two deliveries before Rohit steers a wide delivery behind point for a couple of runs.

A single to Rohit off Lyon in the next over helps the India vice-captain bring up his 8000 runs in ODIs, the eighth Indian to achieve the landmark.

It is only singles at the moment for India with Rohit and Shankar looking to keep the scoreboard ticking with regular singles.

Part-timer Glenn Maxwell comes into the attack. A single to Rohit off the fourth ball helps the Indian opener bring up his fifty from 73 balls.

The asking rate is just over the six runs per over mark and both Rohit and Shankar will be looking to continue their steady approach for the next few overs and then analyse their tactics after the 30-over mark.

The onus now rests on Rohit, who is batting well on 38 from 54 balls, to guide home to victory in the series-deciding ODI.

Shankar comes forward to defend with the bat and ball close to each other but Australia appeal for leg before wicket which is turned down.

Zampa drops short but Shankar can't make most pulling it to deep midwicket for just a single before Rohit takes one off the last ball.

Rohit decides to break the shackles as he comes down the track and lofts Lyon but only for one to long-on and Shankar picks up an easy run to the same fielder.

Two more singles as India reach 98 for three in 20 overs, needing another 175 runs for victory in 30 overs.

Rohit has batted well to score 42 from 62 balls, while Shankar has made three.

Leg-spinner Adam Zampa comes into the attack. He starts with a short ball which Pant pulls over the midwicket fence for a six before clipping the next to deep square leg for one.

A few balls later, Rohit hits one powerfully back and Zampa does well to get his hands to it and save some runs, conceding just a single.

Pant drives the last ball straight to mid-off as non-striker Rohit was setting off for a quick single not realising the fielder is inside the circle and he is sent back immediately as Zampa concedes 10 in his first over.

Lyon bowling on a good line and giving the ball some good flight. He is rewarded for his persistence with the wicket of Pant, who tries to defend but gets the edge and is caught at slip for 16.

Lyon has a huge appeal for leg before wicket turned down as Rohit comes forward to defend. The impact is outside the line and the umpire rightly gives it not out as Australia decide not to review.

Rohit takes a single to long-on before Pant cuts the next to deep point for one as just two runs come from the over.

In the next over, Pant slashes a short wide delivery from Stoinis over the point region for a four followed by two singles.

Lyon also doing well to keep things tight as he gives away just two singles in his third over.

India are 80 for two in 16 overs, needing another 193 runs from 34 overs for victory at an asking rate of 5.68.

Medium pacer Marcus Stoinis comes into the attack. Kohli pulls the first ball to fine leg for one before Rohit tries the same shot but the ball goes down the leg side and beats wicketkeeper Carey to be given five wides.

India then profit from overthrows as the fielder at point unnecessarily hits the stumps despite the batsman making his crease safely and the ball deflects off the stumps and goes for five overthrows.

Three more singles as 14 come from the over with India going past the 50-run mark, in the 11th over.

Spin introduced as Nathan Lyon comes into the attack, to bowl the 12th over.

Kohli goes right back and plays a delicate late cut off the first ball past the wicketkeeper and beats short thirdman for a four. Five singles from the rest of the over as the duo raise the 50-run stand for the second wicket from just 46 balls.

Stoinis strikes with the big, big wicket of Captain Kohli, who flashes at a short wide delivery but gets an edge and is caught behind for 20.

A slight change of pace by Stoinis as Kohli went hard at it but only managed the edge.

India in a spot of bother on 70 for two in 13 overs, with not much batting to follow.

Rishabh Pant walks in at No. 4 as he gets off the mark with a single and Rohit keeps strike with one from the last ball.

Kohli steers the first ball from Richardson to thirdman for one before Rohit drills a wide delivery in the gap through the covers for a four and then takes a single to thirdman.

Kohli then taps the ball to mid-on and sets off for a quick run but he manages to make his crease at the other end.

Cummins gets one to bounce steeply from back of good length as Rohit is surprised, who does well to keep it down. The pacer bowls another tight over, conceding just two singles in his fourth over.

Richardson drops slightly short and also offers some width as Rohit slaps it through the covers for a four and guides the next ball to thirdman for one.

In the next over, Rohit tries to pull Cummins but fails to make connection as the pacer ends up bowling a maiden over to build up some pressure.

With the pressure building up, Rohit takes on Richardson, lofting a length delivery over mid-on for a four to break the shackles.

India are 43 for no loss in 10 overs, with Rohit on 22 and Kohli on nine. They need another 230 runs from 40 overs for victory at an asking rate of 5.75.

Australia will no doubt be looking for early wickets with the new ball, while on the other hand India's openers will be looking to play out the new ball and lay a solid foundation for the middle, but will also be keen to get the team off to a brisk start.

Richardson, who went for 10 in his first over, bowls a good second over giving away just three singles.

Cummins claims with the early wicket as he gets Dhawan caught behind for 12. The left-hander chased a wide delivery which moved away late to take the edge.

Captain Virat Kohli shows positive intent right from the outset. He takes no time to warm up drilling the second ball he faces, from Cummins, through the covers for a four.

He then gets an inside edge on the pads as Rohit comes across for a quick single before the Mumbai right-hander crashes a wide delivery through point for another four.

The experienced duo of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan open the batting for India and it will be interesting to see how the pitch plays in the second half of the match.

Jhye Richardson from the other end. Rohit picks a single on the leg side before Dhawan clips the third ball through square leg for the first boundary of the Indian innings. He then hits the next ball through the off-side for another boundary before taking one to keep strike.

Cummins bowls another tight over, giving away just a single as India reach 12 for no loss in the overs.

Usman Khawaja hit a century before India's bowlers struck at regular intervals to limit Australia to 272 for nine in the series-deciding fifth and final ODI in New Delhi.

Khawaja continued his good form, as he stroked 100 -- his second century of the series but his dismissal saw Australia lose their way with wickets falling at regular intervals.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar triggered the collapse with the key wicket of Khawaja to finish with good figures of three for 48. Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja claimed two wickets each to lead India's strong comeback with the ball.

Electing to bat, Khawaja had given Australia a good start as he put on 75 runs for the opening wicket with Aaron Finch (27) before adding 99 for the second wicket with Peter Handscomb, who stroked 52.

Following Khawaja's wicket, Australia lost six wickets for 54 runs before Jhye Richardson came to the rescue at the end with a quickfire 29 from 21 balls.

India had made two changes for this match with Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja coming for Yuzvendra Chahal and KL Rahul.

Meanwhile, Australia brought back all-rounder Marcus Stoinis to replace Shaun Marsh, while off-spinner Nathan Lyon replaced pacer Jason Behrendorff.

Bumrah, who has two overs in hand, comes back into the attack to bowl the 48th over.

Richardson clips it uppishly on the leg side for two runs as Dhawan is slow to get to the ball.

He opens the face of the bat and runs it fine past a diving wicketkeeper Pant for a four.

Bumrah overpitches as Richardson drills it through the covers for another four to take Australia past the 250-run mark.

Bumrah bowls a good yorker which Richardson digs it out and looks for a quick single but goes back. An angry Bumrah throws down the stumps at the batting end and ends up conceding four overthrows.

The next ball is a full toss which Richardson drives down the ground as Bumrah gets his shoes to stop it and give away just one.

Cummins then makes room and steers a wide delivery from Bumrah through the vacant thirdman region for a four as the fast bowler goes for 19 runs in his ninth over.

Bumrah has conceded just 14 runs from his first eight overs, but ended up giving away more than in his ninth over.

Bhuvneshwar makes the breakthrough to end an irritating partnership for the Indians with the wicket of Cummins, who gets an inside edge which goes off the boots and is caught by the bowler for 15.

A good final over from Bumrah as he concedes five while picking up a wicket to finish with good figures of three for 48 in 10 overs.

Despite going for runs in his previous over, Bumrah continues as he comes in to bowl the final over of the innings.

He foxes Richardson two balls in a row with good change of pace. The right-hander finally gets some bat on ball as he lofts it on the leg side for a single to deep midwicket.

Lyon steals a quick bye after he is beaten to bring Richardson back on strike, who then gets a thick outside edge which goes over short thirdman for a four.

Richardson is run out off the last ball going for an impossible second run after a good innings of 29 from 21 balls as Australia finish on 272 for nine in their 50 overs.

Shami strikes in the next over as Australia continue to lose wickets. Carey gets a thick outside edge and is caught behind for three.

Australia slip to 229 for seven in the 46th over, having lost six wickets for 54 runs in the space of nearly 13 overs.

Pat Cummins chances his arm as he lofts a slower ball from Bhuvneshwar over the fielder at mid-off for a four. He swings the next ball over the leg side but fails to get hold of it as it drops on the leg side and Vijay Shankar does well to keep it inside the ropes and give away just three runs.

Another slower ball as Jhye Richardson taps it on the off-side for one before Cummins clips it to deep midwicket for a single.

Bhuvneshwar tries for a yorker but slips it down the leg side to give away a wide and Richardson takes one off the last ball to make it 11 runs from the over.

Bumrah has been excellent with the ball today. He gets one to move away as Stoinis is beaten before he picks a single to mid-on.

New batsman Alex Carey plays three dot balls in a row as just a single comes from Bumrah's eighth over.

Shami comes back into the attack. Four singles from four balls before Stoinis clips it on the leg side for two runs.

Bhuvneshwar comes back into the attack. He claims the wicket of Stoinis, who drags it back on to his stumps and is bowled for 20.

After a few quiet overs, Turner decides to take on Kuldeep as he pulls a short ball over midwicket for a six.

But Kuldeep has the last laugh. He tries to loft Kuldeep over the leg side but fails to make proper connection and is caught at long-on for 20.

Marcus Stoinis continues the attack as he chips down and lofts Kuldeep back over his head for another six.

14 runs from the over as Kuldeep finishes with expensive figures of one for 74 in 10 overs.

Stoinis takes a single first ball before Jadeja three dot balls in a row to Turner before he gets one to turn sharply and gets a thick outside edge which goes past the vacant slip region for a four.

Jadeja has done a good job with the ball, picking up two for 45 in 10 overs to lead India's good fightback in the middle overs.

A single each to Stoinis and Turner before the former hits a full delivery from Shami straight down the ground for a four.

Kuldeep, who has two overs in hand, comes back into the attack. He starts with a quicker delivery as Turner defends and the next one is slower and turns the other way as the right-hander stays back and guides it to point for one to bring up Australia's 200, in the 40th over.

Stoinis comes down the track and is hit on the pads off the inside edge for a single before Turner pulls a short ball to deep midwicket for just one.

Bumrah is called back into the attack in place of Shami. Turner picks a single from the second ball before Bumrah gets one to seam away late to beat Stoinis, who was looking to defend.

An excellent over from Bumrah as he concedes just a single, for a total of just 13 runs conceded in seven overs, going at just under two per over.

Good work by Kohli on the field as he makes a good diving stop at midwicket to save the single and keep Handscomb on 49. Another couple of dot balls before Handscomb guides the fourth ball down to thirdman for one to complete his fifty, from 55 balls.

A watchful Marcus Stoinis defends the last two balls to end a good over from Bhuvneshwar.

This is good stuff from the Indian bowlers as Jadeja ramps up the pressure, conceding just three runs in his ninth over.

Shami comes back from the other end. And he strikes with the wicket of Handscomb, who gets an edge and is caught by Pant for 52 as Australia are reduced to 182 for four, in the 37th over.

Australia's hero with the bat in the last match, Ashton Turner, gets going in some style as he clips Shami through midwicket for a four, off the first ball he faces. He drives the next ball through the covers for two runs.

A change in the bowling as Bhuvneshwar replaces Bumrah, who bowled six overs for 12 runs.

He makes the much-needed breakthrough for India with the crucial wicket of Khawaja, who is caught in the covers for 100.

Khawaja should have pushed on and looked to stay till atleast the 40th over.

Jadeja comes back from the other end. And he picks the key wicket of dangerman Glenn Maxwell, who also hits it straight to Kohli in the covers to perish for one.

New batsman Marcus Stoinis survives a huge shout for leg before wicket and he is lucky that the inside edge saves him.

Two wickets in the space of six deliveries as Australia are reduced to 178 for three in 34 overs.

Bumrah not taking chances so close to his century and is happy to take the singles. He clips the second ball through midwicket for a single to take his score to 98.

Bumrah bowls a good yorker as Handscomb does well to keep it out and then steers a wide delivery past point for two runs.

India have done well not to let the two batsmen take the initiative, by bowling some tight overs, with just 19 coming from the last five overs.

If India can manage to make a breakthrough then they can pile further pressure and the pull the run rate back even more.

Khawaja slaps a short delivery to sweeper cover for one to take his score to 99. Handscomb comes down the track and clips Kuldeep over midwicket for two runs as Jadhav does well to run to his left and keep the ball inside the ropes.

Wicketkeeper Pant's struggles behind the stumps continue as Handscomb comes down the track and gets an outside edge. Pant is unable to get his gloves to it as Handscomb (40) not gets a lifeline but also picks up a boundary.

And no wonder chants of 'Dhoni, Dhoni' fill the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium.

A single for Khawaja helps him complete his second century of the series, from 102 balls to continue his golden run with the bat. He hit a century in the third ODI in Ranchi and was dismissed in the 90s in the previous match.

Australia are on course for a 300-plus total as they reach 174 for one in 32 overs with Khawaja on 100 and Handscomb on 46.

Handscomb plays a nice drive as he hits a wide half-volley from Jadeja through the covers for one.

Jadeja drops short and Handscomb is quick to pull it square for a four to take Australia past 150, in the 27th over. He then takes a single to deep midwicket for one to take his score to 90.

The two batsmen easily pick five singles off Kuldeep's sixth over to maintain the flow of runs.

A desperate India bring back Bumrah to make the breakthrough and check Australia's charge. Khawaja inside edges the first ball which narrowly misses the stumps. Four dot balls in a row before the left-hander runs the fifth ball down to thirdman for one and Handscomb defends the last ball as just a single comes from the over.

Bumrah has been excellent with the ball, with Australia preferring to just see him off, giving away just nine runs from five overs.

Kuldeep drops short as Khawaja cuts him past point for two runs but then bowls four dot balls in a row followed by a single from the last ball.

Shami tries a short ball but it sits up nicely as Khawaja pulls it over midwicket for a four and two balls later flicks it square for two runs to race to 70 from as many balls.

Khawaja keeps the boundaries coming as he reverse sweeps Jadeja in the gap on the off-side for a four. He tries the shot again for another single followed by two more singles as Australia reach 136 for one in 25 overs.

Khawaja has stroked his way to 76 from 74 balls, while Handscomb has made 32 from 33 balls with the duo putting on 60 from 63 balls so far.

Kuldeep comes back into the attack, replacing Shami. The spinner gives it some air and Khawaja is quick to come down and loft it straight down the ground for a six to race into the 80s as Australia continue to target the left-arm spinner.

He flights it again as Khawaja goes for the slog sweep but this time he is beaten by the sharp turning delivery.

Handscomb clips the first ball on the leg side for two runs followed by a single. Khawaja then pulls a short ball through the leg side for a four and keeps strike with one from the last ball as eight come from the over.

Jadeja doing a good job with the ball to boost his World Cup hopes. Khawaja tries the reverse but can't find the gap on the off-side before he takes a single and Handscomb also manages just a single after two dot balls.

A tidy over from Jadeja as he gives away just three singles. He does well to dive to his left and save some runs as Handscomb had played a good straight drive.

Part-timer Kedar Jadhav comes into the attack in place of Kuldeep, who bowled four overs for 30 runs.

Handscomb immediately comes down the track and lofts the first ball over midwicket for a four to take Australia past the 100-run mark, in the 20th over. He tries to sweep the next ball which is full and is lucky that he got some bat on it, else he would have been in trouble.

Four singles from the rest of the over as Australia reach 105 for one in 20 overs, with Khawaja on 54 and Handscomb on 23.

He tries the shot again but this time he gets the edge which goes fine past wicketkeeper Pant and a diving first slip fielder for another four.

Khawaja sweeps Jadeja to deep midwicket for a single to race to his fifty from 48 balls. The left-hander continues his good run in the series, having registered his fourth 50-plus score in five innings in the series, including a century and a 91.

Handscomb stays back and punches the next ball to long-off for one followed by two more singles as four runs come from the over.

Kuldeep bowls three dot balls in a row to Handscomb, who then sweeps the next fine for two runs followed by a single using the same shot.

Spin from both ends as Ravindra Jadeja is called into the attack from the other end.

Khawaja paddles the first ball fine on the leg side for two runs and then takes one to deep midwicket.

Jadeja makes the breakthrough with the wicket of Finch, who is bowled for 27, after he had put on 76 runs for the opening wicket with Khawaja, from 87 balls.

A full delivery which turns sharply to beat Finch's defensive prod and crash into the off-stump.

Khawaja runs the first ball of Bumrah's third over down to thirdman for a single followed by three dot balls to Finch, who then takes a single to deep square leg.

Bumrah has looked to build some pressure, conceding just six runs from three overs.

Left-chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav comes into the attack. He immediately beats Finch with the wrong one as he plays down the wrong line.

Finch then comes down the track and drives the second ball to long-on for a single.

A single each to Khawaja and Finch before the former again uses his feet and lofts Kuldeep over long-on for a six as Australia's spinners target the spinner early on.

The last ball is short and wide as Khawaja runs it past the slip fielder for two runs as Kuldeep gives away 11 in his first over.

Australia have adopted a watchful approach against Bumrah, not wanting to take any risks against him. Finch carefully defends four balls in a row from Bumrah before he hits the fifth through the covers for two runs.

Australia again taking on Kuldeep as Finch comes down the track and hammers it back over his head for a four. He chips down again and hits it back powerfully but Kuldeep manages to stop it on his follow through.

Australia's batsmen using their feet regularly against Kuldeep, who nearly foxes Finch, but he does well to get his pad in the way.

Change of ends for Bhuvneshwar as he replaces Shami from the other end. Two dot balls to Khawaja before the left-hander attempts to steal an impossible single to mid-on but he is sent back by Finch and rightly so.

Khawaja then plays a brilliant straight drive back past the bowler for a four, he is looking in ominous touch.

The last ball is short as Khawaja pulls it to deep square leg only for a single.

Bumrah continues to bowl tight as he concedes just a single in his second over, with Finch unable to take a run from the last three balls.

Khawaja turns Bhuvneshwar to fine leg for one before Finch clips the third ball through midwicket for three runs to take Australia past the 50-run mark, in the 10th over.

A single to Khawaja on the leg side before Finch defends the last ball as Australia reach 52 for no loss in 10 overs.

India have pulled back things slightly since the introduction of Bumrah, giving away 14 runs from the last four overs, but they will hope to make a breakthrough soon.

Bhuvneshwar continues Khawaja gets a single from the first ball on the off-side before the pacer keeps Finch quiet with three dot balls in a row. The Australian captain runs the fifth ball down to thirdman for a single.

Khawaja plays another good straight drive but can't beat the fielder at mid-off as Bhuvneshwar bowls a good over, conceding just two runs.

Shami produces another cracking delivery to beat Finch, a full delivery which moves away late to beat the right-hander. The next ball comes in but is on the pads but Finch misses the flick on the leg side.

Shami drops short and provides some width as Finch punches it square on the off-side for a four. Two balls later, he hits another superb shot off the backfoot, hitting Shami through the covers for another four as Australia race to 38 for no loss in six overs.

Jasprit Bumrah comes into the attack, replacing Bhuvneshwar, who bowled three overs for 16 runs.

Khawaja clips the second ball through square leg for two runs and then steals a quick run to point as Finch makes his crease despite a direct hit from Kohli.

A tidy start from Bumrah as he gives away just three runs in his first over.

Bhuvneshwar bowls a full wide delivery as Finch throws his bat at it as he crashes it through the covers for a four. He taps the next ball to point and steals a quick single.

Bhuvneshwar gets the ball to come in sharply as Khawaja tries the flick and misses but the leg before shout is turned down and India decide against the DRS with the ball going down the leg side. And the ball tracking shows that the decision would have stayed with umpire's call and India would not have lost their review incase they took the DRS.

He makes good connection next ball as he clips it behind square for a four  as Australia are off to a confident start.

Bhuvneshwar again strays down the leg side as Khawaja clips it fine on the leg side but only for a single to deep square leg.

India's pacers not learning from their mistakes. Shami bowls a full delivery on the pads as Khawaja clips it through midwicket for another four.

Shami switches to round the wicket and he bowls a good delivery to beat Khawaja outside the off-stump as he gets it to move away slightly.

The next ball is driven on the up straight down the ground for another four and then takes one to race to 22 from 18 balls, having hit five fours.

Mohammed Shami from the other end. He starts with a beauty, a full delivery which swings away, as Finch pokes away from his body and is beaten.

The next ball comes in as Finch gets an inside edge which misses the stumps and goes on the leg side as he picks up a single.

Khawaja then drills takes comes forward and drives a full wide delivery through the covers for a four and clips the next ball but can't beat midwicket.

Australia captain Aaron Finch has won the toss and elected to bat against India in the fifth and final ODI in New Delhi.

"We would have liked to bat first as well," said India captain Virat Kohli.

Australia have made two changes with all-rounder Marcus Stoinis replacing Shaun Marsh, while off-spinner Nathan Lyon replaces pacer Jason Behrendorff.

India have brought in an extra pacer in Mohammed Shami as he replaces KL Rahul, while Ravindra Jadeja comes in for Yuzvendra Chahal.

It is overcast at the Feroz Shah Kotla and the Indian team could well bring in an additional pace bowler in Mohammed Shami.

But Sunil Gavaskar feels it is going to be a slow pitch.

"It is going to be a low and slow pitch," observes Sunil Gavaskar in his pitch report. "The dew factor will kick in today and that is what the captains will keep in mind at the toss."

"I reckon take the dew factor into account and therefore if you win the toss, bowl first."

Welcome to the coverage of the fifth and final One-Day International between India and Australia in New Delhi on Wednesday.

It's all to play for the two teams with the series locked at 2-2.

Australia have the momentum on their side with back to back wins after they had lost the first two games.

India will have to quickly put behind a massive bowling failure, sloppy fielding and tactical mistakes to tame a resurgent Australia in the series-decider.

The world-class attack including the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav struggled on a flat track in Mohali as they failed to defend a 350-plus total. The blazing knock by Ashton Turner, who was helped by the Indian team's butter-fingered fielders helped Australia turn it around in style in the last few overs.

In the third ODI in Ranchi,  the team bowled first and in the next match in Mohali, Kohli opted to bat first, taking the dew into consideration but on both days, the opposite happened. It was dry when India chased in Ranchi but dew helped Australia's chase in the fourth ODI with the Indian bowlers struggling to grip the ball.

Not many runs have been scored in the last two ODI matches played in Delhi with India losing to New Zealand by six runs in October 2016 and winning against West Indies by 48 runs in October 2014.

Going by history, the surface should be ideal for wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal as the slow bowlers have done well in the previous games.

Usman Khawaja has been the man for Australia this series. His stellar show at the top has been instrumental in the visitors' turnaround in the series and getting him early would be crucial to India's chances.

With captain Aaron Finch, Peter Handscomb and new sensation Turner contributing in the team's good run, this Australian side is definitely on the right track to regain its status as one of the most formidable sides.

The series-deciding contest will also be the Indian team's last in the 50-over format before the World Cup, making it the players' final chance to make an impression on the selectors minds.

Vijay Shankar has done a reasonably fine job with the bat in the limited chances he has got. But the young Rishabh Pant's World Cup chances were dealt a big blow after he missed an easy stumping chance in Mohali to give Turner a lifeline which proved to be the turning point of the match and he has also not made a case for himself with the bat in limited overs cricket.

The top and middle-order is largely settled and Wednesday's game will be one last chance for Pant, Shankar, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja to do something special and stake their claim for a place in the World Cup team.
