A fine spell of medium pace bowling by Joginder Sharma enabled Haryana restrict hosts Punjab to 224 all out in their first innings and gain an eight-run first innings lead on the second day of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group 'B' match at the PCA stadium in Mohali on Friday.

Sharma claimed five wickets for 84 runs.

Haryana were 38 for two in their second innings, an overall lead of 46 runs. B Bisht (18) and S Verma (4) were at the crease at close.

Resuming at the overnight score of zero without loss, Punjab were all out for 224 in their first innings in reply to the visitors' total of 232.

Ravneet Rickey scored 58, inclusive of nine fours, while G Gupta made 49). Three batsmen -- K Goel, Dinesh Mongia and Navdeep Singh -- were out without scoring.

Muneesh Sharma (33), Reetinder Sodhi (22) and Rajesh Sharma (18) also made useful contributions to the Punjab total.

The visitors commenced their second knock on a bad note, losing the wicket of opener Chetan Sharma (0) when there was only one run on the board. He was out LBW to a delivery from Gagandeep Singh.

After the addition of 33 runs Sunny Singh (15) was caught by Muneesh Sharma off a delivery from Mongia.
