Sensex zooms 233 points to 11,894

The markets had a very strong session, it recouped all the losses it made on Moday. 

It was the biggest single day gain for Sensex since July 20. The Sensex closed at 11,893.79 up 233 points. The Nifty gained 66 points to close at 3455.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 5,975.39 up 105 points or 1.79%.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,004.86 up 86 points 1.75%.

All the BSE sectoral indices closed in the positive terrain.

The BSE Bankex was up 4% at 5,547.75. Federal Bank, Oriental Bank, Bank of India, Andhra Bank and Union Bank moved upwards.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index gained 1% to close at 5,646.72. MRPL, IOC, Chennai Petro and BPCL closed higher.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 2% at 7,955.37. Lakshmi Machine, Gammon India, Carborundum and Greaves Cotton closed higher.

The BSE Auto Index gained 2.2% at 5,195.41. Bharat Forge, Cummins, Maruti Udyog, TVS Motor and Escorts were among the top gainers.

The BSE FMCG Index rose 1.3% at 1,992.16. Britannia, McDowell, HLL and Dabur India closed in green.

The BSE Health Care Index rose 1.8% at 3,583.30. Aurobindo Pharma, Dr Reddys Labs, Divis Labs, Wockhardt and GlaxoSmithKline closed higher.

The BSE IT Index was up 2% at 4,310.77. Patni Computer, Satyam, Infosys, TCS and Wipro advanced.
The BSE Metal Index was flat at 8,228.92.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 7460.59 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 27804.19 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3983.82 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 39248.6crore.

Sensex @ 1402 hrs

The markets have recouped all losses of Monday.

At 2:02 pm, the Sensex was up 271 points at 11,932; it crossed last Friday's close of 11,918. The Nifty was up 78 points at 3,468.

The market breadth was positive, about 1743 shares have advanced, 654 shares declined, and 71 shares are unchanged.

Maruti Udyog (4.34%, Dr Reddy's Labs (3.41%), Bharti Airtel (3.18%), SBI (3.11%), Oriental Bank (4.82%), Jet Airways (4.80%), Maruti Udyog (4.74%), SBI (4.01%), Tata Power (4.01%) and MTNL (3.96%) were the top gainers on the bourses.

The BSE Bankex gained 3%. The BSE Auto, consumer durables, capital goods, pharma and technology indices was up over 2% each. The BSE FMCG, Metal and Oil indices surged over 1% each.

Sensex @ 1242 hrs

The markets continue to trade higher on the back of heavy buying interest in sectors like auto, bank and capital goods.

At 12.42 pm IST, the Sensex is up 230.25 points or 1.97% at 11891.04, and the Nifty up 64.10 points or 1.89% at 3454.

About 1729 shares have advanced, 599 shares declined, and 75 shares are unchanged.

The BSE auto, bank, consumer durable, capital goods, FMCG, healthcare and IT indices were up over 2%.

The BSE midcap and smallcap indices were gained 2.04% and 2.11% respectively.
Maruti Udyog, L&T, HLL, Bharti Airtel, Jet Airways, Oriental Bank and Suzlon Energy were top movers on the indices.

However, Reliance Communication was only loser on Sensex and Nifty.

Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 236.05 up 3.03% from its previous close of Rs 229.10.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,120.00 up 1.2% from its previous close of Rs 1,106.75.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,809.00 up 2.2% from its previous close of Rs 1,770.00.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 184.80 up 1.65% from its previous close of Rs 181.80.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 300.00 up 1.99% from its previous close of Rs 294.15.

BSE 100 gainers:
IDBI was quoting at Rs 66.85, up Rs 4.60, or 7.39%.
Bank Of India was quoting at Rs 146.70, up Rs 7.05, or 5.05%.
Reliance Capital was quoting at Rs 527.40, up Rs 20.35, or 4.01%
Tata Power Company was quoting at Rs 522.75, up Rs 20.35, or 4.05%.
Oriental Bank of Commerce was quoting at Rs 215.50, up Rs 8.35, or 4.03%

Sensex @ 1159 hrs

The markets are northbound as heavy buying is seen in scrips across sectors.

At 11.59 am IST, the Sensex is up 210.16 points or 1.80% at 11870.95, and the Nifty up 59.55 points or 1.76% at 3449.45.

About 1658 shares have advanced, 554 shares declined, and 70 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are Maruti Udyog up 3.72%, Bharti Airtel up 2.76% and L&T up 2.54%.

Top gainers on the Nifty are Jet Airways up 4.50%, Suzlon Energy up 4.22% and Maruti Udyog up 3.96%.

Most active shares on BSE are Indiabulls, Reliance, Mahindra Gesco and most active shares on NSE are Reliance, Indiabulls and Maruti Udyog.

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 235.60 up 2.84% from its previous close of Rs 229.10.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,120.15 up 1.21% from its previous close of Rs 1,106.75.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,806.15 up 2.04% from its previous close of Rs 1,770.00.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 184.90 up 1.71% from its previous close of Rs 181.80.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 302.00 up 2.67% from its previous close of Rs 294.15.

Sensex @ 1053 hrs

The markets are trading firm on the back of buying seen in scrips across sectors. At 10.53 am, the Sensex is up 164.58 points or 1.41% at 11825.37, and the Nifty up 51.85 points or 1.53% at 3441.75.

About 1475 shares have advanced, 424 shares declined, and 57 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are Bharti Airtel up 2.58%, L&T up 2.40% and Satyam up 2.26%

Top gainers on the Nifty are Jet Airways up 5.12% and Suzlon Energy up 2.62%.

Most active shares on BSE are Indiabulls at Rs 342.45 with volume of 20,94,157 shares, Mahindra Gesco at Rs 753.50 with volume of 4,69,161 shares and Unitech at Rs 256.75 with volume of 10,51,376 shares.

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 233.25 up 1.81% from its previous close of Rs 229.10.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,115.30 up 0.77% from its previous close of Rs 1,106.75.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,808.90 up 2.2% from its previous close of Rs 1,770.00.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 184.20 up 1.32% from its previous close of Rs 181.80.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 300.00 up 1.99% from its previous close of Rs 294.15.

Markets @ 9.58 am

Markets open strong in tandem with Asian peers


The markets opened strong on the back of positive cues from Asian peers. At 9:58 am, the Sensex was trading at 11793 up 132 points and Nifty was at 3427 up 37 points.

ACC, Tata Steel, Satyam, IDBI, ITC, HP, BPCL, ONGC, SBI and UWB were among the gainers on the indices.
Asian market were trading higher. Japan's Nikkei was up 0.48% or 75.17 points, South Korea's Seoul Composite gained 0.43% or 5.72 points, Hong Kong's Hang Seng surged 0.82% or 139.87 points , Singapore's Straits Times firmed up 0.73% or 18.28 points and Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted was up 0.43% or 28.43 points at 6,654.16.

Wall Street rallies on drop in oil prices; Dow was up 101 points.
