The month of September too has witnessed a healthy addition of 1.95 million subscribers, a growth of 4.01 per cent over the previous month. The gross cellular subcriber base is now 50.87 million, latest figures from its association COAI said.
Bharti led the pack by adding 6.5 lakh new subscribers, taking its gross cellular user base to 1.40 crore to corner a marketshare of 27.65 per cent.
BSNL comes second in the slot with the addition of 4.9 lakh users, with its subscriber base touching 1.19 crore. Its marketshare is 23.39 per cent.
Hutch, the number three player in terms of cellular subscribers, added 4.1 lakh new customers. Hutch's marketshare with this comes at 19.08 per cent. Its cell user base touched 97 lakh followed by Idea adding 60,000 new users in September and capturing a marketshare of 11.69 per cent.
Idea's subscriber base stands at 59.5 lakh. BPL added 50,000 new users to take its cellular user base to 28 lakh and a marketshare of 5.51 per cent followed by
Aircel at 20 lakh subscriber base by adding 80,000 new users in the month. Aircel's marketshare is at 4.11 per cent. Spice Telecom's marketshare comes to 3.11 per cent with the addition of 10,000 new users and its gross subscriber base is at 15 lakh.
Reliance Telecom added 30,000 more GSM users taking its user base to 14 lakh and a marketshare of 1.93 per cent. MTNL's marketshare is at 2.52 per cent with its 12.8 lakh subscribers in September adding 60,000 more users. Delhi and Mumbai continue to dominate in terms of volume and marketshare.
The national capital continues to be the leading cellular market with 47.1 lakh subscribers accounting for 9.3 per cent marketshare closely followed by Mumbai with 45.1 lakh users accounting for 8.9 per cent of the total market.
Category 'C' circles continue to witness the highest rate of growth at 8.51 per cent which is higher than A and B circles. Within C circles, Bihar recorded highest addition a growth of 9.7 per cent followed by J&K.
