Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited expects exports to constitute 15 per cent of its turnover for 2007, company chairman and managing director T G Ramachandran said Monday.

Speaking to reporters in Bangalore, he said the proportion of exports increased from about two per cent in 1998 to 10 per cent last year, when export orders worth Rs 800 crore were executed. Exports worth Rs 1,000 crore were expected to be undertaken this year, he added.

"Every year we want to cover more countries and towards this end have received orders for power project equipment from Taiwan and negotiations are in the final stage with the United Arab Emirates," Ramachandran said.

Besides project exports, Bhel proposed to enter the global market for products, services and supply of components to collaborators, he said.

Bhel is likely to enter a joint venture with a leading Indian information technology company to establish 'remote service centres', he said. "We are self-sufficient in software. What is needed is the marketing of our skills, and for this purpose we may go in for a joint venture with a leading IT company in India," Ramachandran stated.
