Leucoderma Awareness Movement, a Chennai-based LAM-India is a non-profit, non-government organisation that has been striving to eradicate the stigma attached to this skin condition, is organising a mass 'swayamvaram' for affected people to choose their partners at Tiruchirapalli's National College on January 27.

The Tamil Nadu government on Wednsday moved the Supreme Court -- seeking launch of contempt of court proceeding against Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar and others -- for allegedly defying the court's order to supply 9,000 cusecs of water from Cauvery River to the state. In its application filed through counsel Umapathi Ganesh, Tamil Nadu contended that Karnataka has deliberately violated the apex court's directive.
In his plea, Umapathy, secretary of Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam, alleged that Rajinikanth had made false and fraudulent statements insulting the Dravidian stalwart and followers of Periyar while speaking at the golden jubilee celebrations of Tamil magazine 'Thuglak' here recently. He contended that "Rajinikanth made false and fraudulent statements insulting Dravidian ideologists and the followers of Thanthai Periyar with an intention to provoke breach of public peace by promoting enmity and hatred among the people of Tamil Nadu in the name of religion."
It would be used to fund research in wireless communications for a period of five years.
