Cutting across ideological differences, political parties and separatists in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday welcomed the unilateral three-day ceasefire announced by the United Jehad Council, saying the Centre should reciprocate the gesture. "It is a good move which should have come earlier," said Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chairman of the moderate faction of the Hurriyat Conference. UJC chief Syed Salahuddin had announced the unilateral ceasefire from Oct 12 for Eid-ul-Fitr.
Authorities on Monday attached a house belonging to Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin's son in the city's Ram Bagh area, officials said.
Experts in Delhi expressed doubt over the authenticity of the claim as the Pathankot attack is widely believed to be the handiwork of Pakistan-backed Jaish-e-Mohammad terror outfit which is not part of UJC.
"No progress whatsoever could be made in the talks between the foreign secretaries of Pakistan and India on Thursday so it could be stated that talks have been unsuccessful," The News quoted Syed Salahuddin, UJC chairman, as saying. "The core issues, including the Kashmir imbroglio, were not discussed by the foreign secretaries of the two countries," he added.
In a statement, the UJC which is a conglomerate of various militant groups, headed by Hizbul Mujaheedin supreme commander, Syed Salah-ud-Din condemned the lodging of an FIR against Zaki-ur-Rahman Lakhwi and five others in the Mumbai attacks.
A top militant commander has supported the Irish-type solution to resolve the Kashmir issue, but added, "India should first accept Kashmir as a disputed territory."
UJC is a conglomerate of various militant groups Kashmir headed by Syed Salah-ud-Din, supreme commander of the frontline militant group, Hizbul Mujaheedin.
Muzaffarabad based United Jihad Council on Monday announced a three-day unilateral ceasefire coinciding with the Muslim festival of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Earlier in June this year, his another son, Shahid, who was working in the agricultural department of the Jammu and Kashmir government, was arrested in the same case.
The agency alleged that Shahid is "one of several Indian contacts of Bhat" who have been in telephonic contact with him to receive the money transfer codes.
NIA says he has also given the names of overseas Hizbul Mujahideen members involved in fund-raising for the terror outfit.
