In a bid to derive benefits of trade and technology transfer, the government on Tuesday decided to ratify two amendments to the Montreal Protocol on protecting the ozone layer from depletion.
"Let us not seek trade advantages through the instrument of environmental treaties," the prime minister emphasised while addressing a meeting here of parties to the Montreal Protocol on substances that deplete the Ozone layer. \n

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said a climate deal between the United States and China does not put pressure on India, but that global warming itself was reason to take action.
According to the amendment adopted by nations, developed countries will reduce HFCs use first, followed by China along with a large number of countries.
India has demanded the speeding up of global efforts to ban ozone-depleting chemicals and asked for adequate funding and transfer of related technologies to help developing countries reduce their emission.
