The Asom Gana Parishad on Monday announced the second list of 35 poll candidates which included names of 17 party MLASs including the former chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta. The former chief minister is contesting from his home ground of Barhampur in Nagaon district. The AGP earlier announced names of 40 poll candidates.
At least five Youth Congress activists were killed and 21 others injured, five of them seriously, in a road accident at Chakarigaon in Assam's Nagaon district on Saturday, said the police. The mishap took place when the minibus in which they were travelling skidded off the road at Chakarigaon, the sources said. The Youth Congress activists were returning from Barhampur after casting their votes in the ongoing Youth Congress election.
The fifth president's nephew, 55-year-old Jiauddin Ahmed, his wife Akima Begum and sons Habib Ali Ahmed and Wajed Ali Ahmed are residents of Kalamoni Barhampur near Rangia in Kamrup district.
