The Indian women's hockey team, sans coach, finished last at the four-nations tournament in Rotterdam, after they were thrashed 1-5 by South Africa in the third and fourth place play-off match.

Hosts Netherlands won the tournament after crushing Great Britain 5-0 in the final on Saturday.

South Africa, who were earlier beaten by the Indian eves 0-1 in the league stages, took sweet revenge, finding the Indian net twice in the first half

Vida Ryan was the star player for South Africa scoring two goals in the 50th and 69th minute, while Marsh Marescia, Kathleen Taylor and  Jenny Wilson scored the other goals.

For India, skipper Surinder Kaur was the lone goal scorer in the 16th minute.

The Indian team, which is on a 22-day European tour, is missing the services of their chief coach M K Kaushik as his employer Haryana Sports Department did not clear his leave.

To add to the woes, the Indian Women's Hockey Federation also did not send a manager with the team for the tour which is seen as a preparation for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

The team will now travel to Bremen, Germany where they will feature in another four-nation tournament involving Korea, South Africa and the hosts from July 3 to 6.
