After riots, eerie calm in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur

With the situation improving a bit in violence-hit Saharanpur, curfew was relaxed for a few hours to allow locals to buy essentials.

Three people were killed and 24 were injured in riots that broke out in the district on Saturday.

An uneasy calm prevailed in Saharanpur where 38 people were arrested as a political blame game erupted with the Bharatiya Janata Party accusing Samajwadi Party of indulging in "vote-bank politics" and the Congress blasting the Uttar Pradesh government for "lapses".

Schools will stay closed till Wednesday.

The Centre on Monday said the situation in violence-hit Saharanpur is fully under control and it is keeping close eye on it.

"Saharanpur situation is fully under control. We are keeping a close vigil," Home Minister Rajnath Singh told reporters.
