Armed Maoists struck terror at an isolated railway station, about 150 km from Rourkela, assaulting railway employees and firing at an engine on Monday, the police said.

Two armed ultras stormed the Topadihi railway station and asked assistant station manager Nelson Tirkey not to allow any goods train pass through the route.

Tirkey, along with two other railway employees, was also beaten up. The railway line, which passes through forests, is used to carry raw material from the Kalta captive iron ore mines to the Rourkela steel plant.

S Praveen Kumar, superintendent of police, Rourkela, said two other armed ultras again visited the railway station on Monday afternoon and issued threats to station master Samir Lakra and other employees ordering that no trains could ply on the route.

Panicked employees fled the place while the Maoists fired several rounds at a goods engine.
