Apple brings world's fastest computer to India

Global major Apple Computers on Wednesday unveiled in New Delhi the world's fastest personal computer -- Power Mac G5 -- with a 64-bit desktop processor accompanied by higher memory expansion up to 8 giga byte.

"The new Power Mac G5 combines the world's first 64-bit desktop processor, one giga hertz front-side bus, up to eight GB of memory," Richard A Ng, product marketing manager, Asia Pacific, Apple said in New Delhi.

IBM has manufactured the PowerPC G5 processor on its Power architecture for Apple.

"Our 64-bit offering Power Mac G5 will be useful for the creative professionals -- print publishers, photoshop users, designers, 2-D and 3-D, video customers for editing and capturing," he said, and added that the product had great utility for Bollywood.

The PowerMac G5 line, which will be available by August-end, comes in three variants.

The dual 2.0 Ghz 64-bit PowerPC G5, 8 GB maximum memory with a suggested retail price of Rs 255,000. The other two models carry -- 1.8 Ghz and 1.6 Ghz 64-bit PowerPC G5 with 8GB and 4GB maximum memory, respectively, and they come with a price tag in the order of Rs 200,000 and Rs 174,000.

"India as a market is as important as any other market. We continue to take the strategy of innovating," Richard said.

Power Mac G5's predecessor Power Mac G4 is available in the specific configuration of Power Mac G4 1.25 Ghz in India.
