Umpire Steve Bucknor returned to duty in the first Test between South Africa and Bangladesh in Dhaka on Friday.

It is the West Indies umpire's first assignment since being embroiled in controversy last month.

The 61-year-old Jamaican was dropped by the International Cricket CouncilĀ from the India- Australia Test series following pressure from India, who criticised his performance in their 122-run defeat against the hosts in Sydney.

Widely respected and instantly recognisable, Bucknor had umpired a record 120 Test matches, as well as 167 one-day games, before being dropped.

Only David Shepherd of England and Rudi Koertzen of South Africa have umpired more one-day internationals.

Bucknor has also stood in five successive World Cup finals.
