Pakistan elect to field

Pakistan won the toss and elected to bowl in the first match of the ninth World Cup at Sabina Park in Jamaica on Tuesday.

Hosts West Indies elected to play Corey Collymore in a front-line seam attack along with Daren Powell and Jerome Taylor.

Pakistan decided to leave out all-rounder Azhar Mahmood and paceman Mohammad Sami, while leg-spinner Danish Kaneria was included even though he did not feature in Pakistan's two most recent one-day series in South Africa and at home against West Indies.

The weather conditions are hot and sunny with a light breeze. Ireland and Zimbabwe are the other teams in Group D.

West Indies: Brian Lara (captain), Chris Gayle, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Marlon Samuels, Dwayne Bravo, Dwayne Smith, Denesh Ramdin (wicketkeeper), Jerome Taylor, Daren Powell, Corey Collymore.

Pakistan: Inzamam-ul-Haq (captain), Imran Nazir, Mohammad Hafeez, Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousuf, Shoaib Malik, Kamran Akmal (wicketkeeper), Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, Umar Gul, Rao Iftikhar, Danish Kaneria.
