One more potato farmer has committed suicide in West Bengal after being unable to repay his agricultural loans despite a bumper crop, taking the toll in the state to seven so far.
The chief minister said the government was setting up cold storages in all blocks besides warehouses and kisan mandis in the PPP model for which land has been identified.
To tide over the difficulties due to incessant shutdowns, several farmers in Maharashtra have turned into aggregators and started selling their produce without the help of mandis or agents. They have started contracting with bulk consumers like hypermarkets and co-operative housing societies to sell their produce directly.
Open market price cools down as chief minister orders cold storages to empty stock by December 15.
This time, the price of potato had shot up to Rs 50 per kg.
