The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India floated a consultation paper on playing an active role in monitoring the Indian television viewership. TAM Media Research is the sole player in the monitoring market for the last 10 years. TAM's CEO L V Krishnan says govt should start regulating all types of rating outputs like daily newspaper polls done via SMS or even TV polls during elections and not just TV TRPs. TAM is often criticised for its poor sample size, TRP system, etc.

The viewership numbers of the DLF Indian Premier League have thrown up a new trend that challenges conventional advertising wisdom. No less than 36 per cent of the television viewership for the first two matches played on April 18 and April 19 was contributed by women, according to TAM Media Research. All told, 8.2 million women in six metros (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore) watched cricket on television those nights, giving serials the miss.

According to TAM Media Research, Shah Rukh Khan's Kolkata Knight Riders took on Vijay Mallya's Royal Challengers during DLF's debut match in Bangalore on Friday, the official television broadcaster Sony Max delivered a television viewership rating (TVR) of 8.21 across six metros Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore. The elite viewership rating (Mumbai and Delhi) was 9.82.

According to the latest report by AdEx India, a division of TAM Media Research, the growth in Internet portals' overall ad volume on TV during the period was dominated by 'Shopping Portals 'which recorded a maximum rise in advertisements per day. According to the report, average advertisements per day saw a rise of 240 per cent in January-August 2007 over the January-August 2006 figures.
